For Immediate Release: Five Roadside Fires Serve as a Reminder: Fire Prevention Starts with All of Us

Fire season is upon us, and we are asking our community to remain vigilant and do their part to help prevent wildfires.

Shortly after 1800 hours, officers responded to five separate vegetation fires on the east side of Clark Road. Officers conducted an investigation into the incidents. While it is believed that at least two of the fires may have been started by discarded marijuana cigarette "joints," investigators were unable to confirm that this was the cause of all of the fires.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the community members who immediately stepped in to help control these fires. Their quick actions, along with the rapid response from first responders, helped contain the fires before they could spread further. Your willingness to assist and protect our community made a significant difference.

As temperatures rise and vegetation becomes increasingly dry, even a small spark can lead to a devastating wildfire.

We ask everyone to do their part to reduce the risk of fire by:

Never throwing cigarettes, marijuana products, or other smoking materials from a vehicle.
•
Ensuring smoking materials are completely extinguished before disposal.
•
Avoid dragging chains or other metal objects that could create sparks.
•
Properly secure trailer safety chains and equipment.
•
Stay alert for signs of smoke or fire while traveling.

If you see smoke, suspicious activity, or anyone acting carelessly with fire, say something. Report emergencies by calling 911 as soon as it is safe to do so. A quick phone call can make the difference between a small roadside fire and a devastating wildfire.
