For Immediate Release: No People Found Inside Septic Treatment Tank Following Multi-Agency Response

On July 29, 2026, officers with the Paradise Police Department were dispatched to the Paradise Boutique Apartments, located at 5900 Canyon View Drive, following reports that people could be heard talking from inside a large black water treatment tank.

Given the unusual nature of the call and the possibility that someone could be trapped inside, officers requested assistance from CAL FIRE and emergency medical personnel as a precaution.

Upon arrival, officers located an above-ground septic treatment tank measuring approximately 12 feet by 12 feet by 40 feet. Officers conducted a visual inspection of the interior of the tank, while CAL FIRE assisted with a more thorough examination using what can only be described as "the world's least desirable search tool"—a very large stick.

As word of the incident spread, the response grew to include additional resources, including Butte County Search and Rescue. After several hours of investigation, inspection, and what we can confidently say was a truly unforgettable day for everyone involved, it was determined that no people were inside the tank.

While today's call did not result in a rescue, it serves as a reminder that emergency responders will always investigate reports where there is a possibility that someone's life may be in danger. We'd much rather spend an afternoon ruling out an emergency than risk missing one.
